Kilauea Iki Trail – Volcano Nat. Park

June 16, 2012

We have gotten back from Kona a few days ago where I sunbathe way too long and got a sunburn… a sunburn that caused a Oral Herpes to flare up! So painful! and uncomfortable and ugly… I did not want to come out of the house but Kilauea Iki trail was waiting…

… a totally awesome hike!

The trail descends 400 feet through the rain forest, with native birds in the canopy, to the crater floor. Crossing the still-steaming crater floor, past the gaping throat of the vent that built Pu’u Pua’i cinder cone.
